Wilson has been painting since 2002 and has had little formal art training apart from attending regular Sally Maguire workshops in Paraparaumu in the early years and attending 2–day workshops with other pastelists including top Australian and American artists.
Wilson is retired from a long career in surveying and land development during which time which he developed a real appreciation of landform and the outdoors. He works exclusively in pastel and his main focus is on landscape painting but also dabbles in portrait and transport. He has lived on the Kapiti Coast for nearly 40 years.
Wilson is a member of Pastel Artists of New Zealand and the Kapiti Arts and Crafts Society Wilson joined PANZ in 2003 and became involved in organising the 2005 Convention at Upper Hutt. He was elected Secretary in 2006, then swapped that role for Treasurer in 2006. He currently looks after membership matters and convention and exhibitions registrations and entries.
