I was born and brought up in the village of Ponteland, Northumberland, England, where I first embarked upon my interest in painting, choosing oils as my medium. I spent 10 years in South Africa where my love of wildlife inspired me to study wildlife animal portraiture there.. Since then I was introduced to the medium of pastels by renowned Scottish artist Margaret McIntyre a Medium I have been using for 40 years.
For 20 years I worked with dogs, having my own grooming business in Edinburgh. I started my Pastel work by helping the Edinburgh Dog and Cat home doing portraits for their clients. My work is acclaimed Internationally both in New Zealand and around the Globe.
Being a great lover of nature and the countryside I love painting landscapes, still life, portraits and ethnic studies. In 1996 and 1997 my pictures were awarded Awards of Merit in one of Europe's wildlife competitions - P.A.W.S.
I have been a member of PANZ since 2003 enjoying the camaraderie, helping to start the Nelson Branch with Glenys Forbes, and the highlight of my career was attending The International Association of Pastels Societies, I.A.P.S, in 2015 in Albuquerque New Mexico.
In 2006 I was awarded the status of Artist Member of the Pastel Artists of New Zealand, I now live in Mapua Nelson .
