I have been drawing and painting since I was very young. I did mostly graphite and charcoal drawings. I did try other mediums but found them very frustrating. I was told in my late teens that I shouldn’t do art for the HSC (NSW, Australia).
I went on to become a PDHPE teacher for 30 years and loved it. Family and work commitments meant I didn’t have the time to devote to art.
I took up photography instead and learnt lots about composition and light. I was awarded in local, national and international photography competitions, but I still felt I need to be more hands-on.
After moving to New Zealand in 2017 I began drawing and painting again. I went to a workshop with Maxine Thompson in November 2019 and I was hooked. The more direct and immediate nature of pastels, as well as all the beautiful colours drew me in. I’ve done workshops with Julie Greig, Julie and Michael Freeman, Lyn Diefenbach, Tricia Reust as well as lots of online classes. I’m still learning and I’m sure I always will.
I’ve been lucky enough to be included many exhibitions throughout NZ and online.
2024 was my first actual PANZ conference and I have been inspired by all the fantastic artists that I’ve met.
I look forward to working with the committee to continue to inspire other artists.
