Painting is in my family, my great, great Grandfather painted in watercolour and my Grandmother illustrated poems and stories she wrote. My Mother was a great potter and painted too. I have always enjoyed painting and received my first art prize, a box of watercolour paints from school at year 9.
Later in life, in 1976, I had tuition from Robyn Kahukiwa at Mana College night school. I attended Wellington Teachers College as an adult student, majoring in art. Going on to teach as art teacher for 4 years at an Intermediate school. I then taught in a regular classroom for the rest of my career and incorporated art into many of my programmes.
After switching from oil to pastel 12 years ago this is now my preferred medium. I have sold work in New Zealand and Internationally. I have attended workshops by many International artists and have learned something new from each. I am continuing to learn developing my skills all the time. Each day can be a new challenge.
