Rachael Hayton is a New Zealand pastel artist whose work is inspired by the landscapes, waterways, and changing light of Aotearoa and Australia. Working primarily in soft pastel, she is drawn to capturing atmosphere, reflections, and a strong sense of place, combining careful observation with an increasingly interpretive approach to composition and design.
Alongside her artistic practice, Rachael is a Chartered Accountant and Fractional CFO, bringing extensive experience in financial leadership, strategic planning, governance, and business performance. Her professional background has developed strong analytical, organisational, and project management skills, which she also applies to her artistic pursuits and volunteer roles within the arts community.
A passionate advocate for the pastel medium, Rachael enjoys exploring both traditional and contemporary approaches to pastel painting through exhibitions, competitions, workshops, and ongoing study. As a Committee Member of the Pastel Artists of New Zealand, she is pleased to contribute both her artistic perspective and professional governance experience to support the organisation's mission of promoting excellence in pastel art and fostering a vibrant community of pastel artists throughout New Zealand.
