I live in Beach Haven on the North Shore of Auckland. Surrounded by bush and close to the beach,
we don’t feel that we are in the biggest and most traffic-jammed city of NZ.
I am a retired teacher (40 years) but still like to keep my hand in by relieving at our local school.
I love creating things. As well as being a professional singer for approximately 10 years,
I have tried several forms of creative arts including pottery and lead lighting.
I had dabbled in acrylics for a few years but when we moved to Huapai for a while I decided to try acrylic classes with Amber Emm.
This moved my painting along tremendously.
It was in one of these sessions that we were introduced to pastels by Julie Freeman during a workshop.
This was followed by a smaller workshop with Amber using pastel pencils. I was hooked.
In 2022 I joined PANZ. Their wonderful newsletter has opened the door to all things pastel.
In 2023 I won one of the PANZ scholarships. The award allowed me to have a full weekend workshop with Julie Freeman in 2024.
More pastel inspiration and techniques!
2025 saw me at the PANZ convention in Alexandra - my first PANZ convention.
Here I learned lots, met many wonderful artists from across NZ and saw how talented our NZ pastel artists are.
The Purely Pastel Exhibition in particular, was jaw dropping. All inspired, I agreed to be a committee member
